Every mask begins its life in a surprisingly humble way: paper mache. We start with this medium because it allows for total customization of shape and contour while remaining incredibly lightweight. When you’re under hot stage lights and moving with the intensity our music demands, comfort is non-negotiable.
A paper mask wouldn't last five minutes in a Systimatik set without some serious reinforcement. Depending on what each member needs, we "armor" the base layers with duct tape.
This serves two purposes:
Durability: It makes the masks rugged enough to withstand sweat, travel, and impact.
Aesthetics: The textured, industrial look of the tape adds a raw, "built-in-a-basement" grit that fits our sound perfectly.
Once the structure is solid, it’s time for the final transformation. This is where the personality of each member really bleeds through. We use a mix of hand-painting for deep, visceral details and airbrushing for those haunting, ethereal gradients and shadows.
